Premier Women Aviators at the California International Air Show!!! September 27 & 28
Salinas, Ca: The California International Air Show is happy to announce the appearance of three Premier Women Aviators in the 28th annual Air Show. This year, the California International Air Show hosts Jacquie B Warda, Julie Clark and Major Samantha Weeks, Lead Solo(#5) for the USAF Thunderbirds. According to Women In Aviation International, as of 2005, Women made up about 6% of the total pilots in the United States. In the military, that number is about half that. By showcasing these aviators, the hope to is inspire more young women to look at aviation as a possibility for a future career.
Jacquie B decided at 50 to launch into an aviation career, leaving the legal profession behind. Jacquie got her pilots license in 1986 and soon realized that aerobatic flying was her thing. She has over 1800 hours and currently flies her “Red Eagle” Pitts-S1T.
Julie Clark knew in grade school that aviation was for her. Her dad, Ernie Clark was an airline pilot who used to secret Julie on-board. Julie got her pilots license by using college book money for flight lessons. She was hired by Hughes Air West Airlines as their first female pilot. Julie continued as a commercial pilot for 27 years, retiring from Northwest as Captain on the Airbus A320. She flies the Chevron T-34 and has over 29,000 flight hours in a variety of aircraft.
Major Samantha Weeks is in her second season with the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron. Maj. Weeks entered the Air Force in 1997 from the U.S. Air Force Academy. Before her assignment to the team she served as a flight commander and instructor pilot with the 12th Fighter Squadron, 3rd Wing, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. She has logged more than 1,700 hours as an Air Force pilot, with approximately 1,100 hours in the F-15 C/D. Maj. Weeks calls Rome, NY home.
